Museum location

The Danish Railway Museum is located in the centre of Odense on Dannebrogsgade, just north of Odense Central Station. The museum is a five-minute walk from the bus stop for city and regional buses and a two-minute walk from the train platform. If you are walking to the museum from the centre of Odense, you can walk through the Odense Central Station building or through the tunnel underneath the old railway station. You can also walk from Jernbanegade across Byens Bro bridge over the tracks to the stairs at track 7.

Parking

You can pay to park in the multi-storey car park at Odense Central Station, in a car park off Dannebrogsgade, or in a car park at Lerchesgade 1. Coaches may stop at the south side of the museum for drop-off and pick-up.

Storage lockers

We provide key-operated lockers (DKK 10 deposit) in the ticket sales area.

Pull-along carts, etc.

We provide a number of pull-along carts which museum visitors are welcome to borrow. We also have rollators and walker canes.

Prams and pushchairs

The Danish Railway Museum is laid out to make it easy to access most of the indoor exhibition with prams and pushchairs. There are lifts at both ends of the museum leading up to the balcony, where a café, exhibition, play area and the Children’s Railway Station are located. The location of the lifts is shown on the overview map issued to all visitors.

Baby-changing areas

There are several baby-changing areas at the museum. The baby-changing areas are shown on the overview map issued to all visitors.

Food and beverages

You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages. We have designated several areas indoors and outdoors where you can eat a packed lunch. It is possible to buy ice cream, sweets, as well as cold and hot drinks at the ticket counter.

Our balcony café is open during some holiday periods and during special events. In these instances, The Food Stall sells a varied assortment of freshly-made sandwiches, sausage rolls, fruit and vegetables, as well as healthy snacks and pastries. The opening hours vary from one event to another.

When the café is closed, we kindly refer you to the Odense Central Station, which is a two-minute walk from the museum. Here you will find The Food Stall, Café From and Restaurant Giraffen. All three venues will give you a 10% discount if you present your ticket from the Danish Railway Museum purchased the same day.

Smoking

The Danish Railway Museum is a smoke-free attraction.

Dogs

Dogs and other animals are not permitted in the Danish Railway Museum, except guide dogs, however.

Disabled access

The Danish Railway Museum has good disabled access. There is level access at the entrance, and most of the indoor areas are easy to navigate in a wheelchair, for example. There are lifts at both ends of the museum leading up to the balcony, where a café, exhibition, play area and the Children’s Railway Station are located. Toilets for the disabled are found at several locations – both on the ground floor and on the balcony level. The toilets for the disabled are shown on the overview map issued to all visitors.

Several carriages and engines can be seen from platforms and accessed via a stairway or wheelchair lift, and, as many of the objects on display are quite large and can be touched, persons with impaired vision can enjoy a visit, too.
